Can you adopt or become a foster parent in ca with a criminal background?

i had a drug problem for many years and i did go to prison twice for possesion . i have since cleaned up my act and i have been clean and off parole for 3 years . i just got married and my husband is 8 years younger than me with no children i have a daughter who is about to be 18 .. we are trying to have a baby but we have not been successful as of yet . if i am unable i would love to try to adopt or foster but i think my background may prevent me from that wich sucks because i have completly turned my life around and would like to have the oppurtunity to be a parent again .. can somebody please give me any info if it this will even be possible in regards to adoption or fostering ??
