Is BT Customer Service any better than Virginmedia?

VM Customer Service has to be the worst I've ever experienced. Their rude Indian Call-Centre operatives with fake American names seem to think it's acceptable to get rude with you and leave you on hold for an hour at time, consantly passing you around because everybody's so clueless they don't know what they're doing. I'm thinking of moving to BT given that Cable is no longer cheap, and charges the most expensive rates for calls and line rental (they want over 10p a min for 0845 numbers, cheek!) at least BT seem to charge sensible rates. But are their customer service ops any good? I'm needing to find a good company that has organised Customer Service, not like VM who tell you three different stories then transfer you. A shambles of a company. Thanks for any replies :D
